     Obituary
Rev. John B. Wintermute, 91, of Selmer departed this life on Saturday, October 3, 2009, in Jackson, TN. Born in Memphis, TN, on December 27, 1917, and raised in Scranton, PA, and Wimmers, PA, he was the son of the late Walter and Jennie Mitchell Wintermute. He was a graduate of Maryville College in Tennessee and McCormick Seminary in Chicago, IL. Rev. Wintermute was a retired United Presbyterian USA minister with pastorates in Selmer and Savannah, TN, as well as in Chicago, IL, Las Animas, CO, Kansas City, KS, and Rocky Ford, CO. He was married to Miriam Berst Wintermute for 62 years until her death in 2004. Survivors are his daughters, Wendy Wintermute (Lawrence Harman) of Albuquerque, NM, and Katie Wintermute of Selmer; his sons, Steve Wintermute (Janice) of Kingsport, TN, Tim Wintermute (Kathie Sutcliffe) of Ann Arbor, MI, and Will Wintermute (Leslie Hurst) of Selmer; a brother, Orval (Joy) Wintermute, and sisters Ella Seidel and Mary (Don) Kent; 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends. His sister, Annie Williams, preceded him in death. Rev. Wintermute was involved in numerous community activities while pastoring in Selmer and Savannah. He was a published playwright and artist. His sanctuary plays and stories and his candlelight Christmas Eve services will be remembered by many. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 11, 2009, at the First Presbyterian Church in Selmer, TN. A memorial service will follow at the church at 3:00 PM with his niece Rev. Ruth Kent officiating. Assisting at the service will be Rev. Dr. James Jones and Mr. Allen Cherry. The family request memorial contributions be made to the charity of each individual's choice.
