Captain Spruance was born 24 October 1915 at Norfolk, Virginia He was a submariner in WWII commanding USS LIONFISH. he later was skipper of a captured Japanese "I" boat after the occupation of Japan. Captain Spruance was killed in a car accident in 1969

Captain Spruance was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry while serving as approach officer aboard the submarine USS Tambor during WWII.
