The Rev. Eli R. Fabian, 96, Martinsburg, died at 12:35 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2009, at the Homewood Retirement Community, Martinsburg.
He was the husband of Ruth (Stahlman) Fabian, who died Aug. 23, 2002. They were married in Trinity UCC in Alcola on July 15, 1941, by the Rev. Roy Frazier and the Rev. Dr. Charles Freeman.
Born in Tinicum, Bucks County, on Aug. 13, 1912, he was the son of the late Reuben Fabian and Miriam (Frankenfield) Fabian.
In his 70th year of ministry, Rev. Fabian was a retired pastor in the United Church of Christ serving in the following locations: Red Bank (1939-1943), Pymatuming (1943-1953), Zion (1953-1957), Salem-Belknap (1957-1963), Mifflinburg (1963-1970), and Beaver (1970-1979).
He was a member of Abbey Reformed United Church of Christ, Huntingdon.
He also was a member of Edenburg Lodge No. 550 F&AM of Knox; Valley of Coudersport Consistory, AASR; and IOOF of Sharpsville. He was a former member and past president of the Kiwanis Club of Mifflinburg and a former member of the board of directors of the St. Paul's Children's Home and Old Folks' Home in Greenville, since 1968.
He graduated from Doylestown High School in 1931, from F&M College with a bachelor of arts degree in 1937, and from Lancaster Theological Seminary with a bachelor of divinity degree in 1939.
He enjoyed gardening, hunting and reading.
He is survived by sons Ronald M. Fabian of Leesport and Charles E. Fabian and his life partner, Jay Erb, of Lewistown; and daughter Miriam (Fabian) Slicker and her husband, Samuel E., of Huntingdon.
He is also survived by four grandchildren: Jenifer Fabian and her partner, Marsha East of Chicago, Ill.; Deanna (Fabian) Herman and her husband, Ralph, of Birdsboro; Henry E. Slicker of Duncansville; and Amy E. Slicker of Huntingdon.
There are two great-grandchildren, Madison and Rachel Herman of Birdsboro.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Amy E. Fabian, formerly of Leesport.
A funeral and committal service will be held at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, 417 Washington St., Huntingdon, PA 16652, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, with the Rev. Gerald McCuller officiating, assisted by the Rev. Todd E. Snyder.
Friends may call at the John B. Brown Funeral Home from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. until time of service on Tuesday, and at the David C. McEntire Funeral Home, 504 E. Penn St., Knox, PA 16232 from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 29.
Interment will be in Salem Cemetery, Frogtown, Clarion County, with Pastor Samuel Swick officiating.
