The 309 Motel was located right across the street from the Montgomeryville Airport and the 202 Diner, on part of the site presently occupied by the Montgomery Mall. It was built, owned and operated by Howard W. Rice and Jane Yergey Rice. They lived there from about 1954 until Jane's death in 1968. An addition to the house and 11 more units were added in the 1960's. Howard continued to operate the Motel until he sold the property to the developers for the Montgomery Mall in the 1970's.

I forgot after correcting the children of my Uncle Howard W. Rice to go back and tell you about his other two spouses. He was married to a Martha Hopkins in the 1940 Census but it didn't last long since he married my Aunt on 4 July 1942. My Aunt died of cancer on 16 May 1968 and he married a Charlotta K. several months later. She was a widow of a deceased friend. According to the SSDI she was born 28 Jan 1921. She died in Lansdale 28 August 1988 only about a month after his passing.

Biography

James John Simes was born on 19 September 1945 in Pennsylvania.2,3 He and Sandy Lee Sager were married on 11 November 1972 in Los Angeles County, California.2 He died on 13 March 2009, at age 63, in Narvon, Lancaster, Pennsylvania.2,3
James John Simes was a Minister/ Road Master for East Whiteland Township, Chester, Pennsylvania.1 He was educated Full Gospel Bible Institute- 1987. Jim was a man of faith. He did not hesitate to share the word of God with anyone who would listen. Jim was nicknamed "The Mountain Preacher" as he would go around the Great Valley area preaching in people's homes or open areas. He did not have a church of his own.

Jim would ride a motorcycle to get around. One afternoon as he was going out to preach another automobile ran a traffic light and hit Jim's cycle hard sending Jim flying. The other driver never even stopped, just kept on going. Later the driver was identified and caught, he exclaimed he was glad to have hit a cyclist. That man broke every single bone in Jim's body. Doctor's did not expect him to survive and he was unconcious, therefore, the doctor's did not attempt to set any of his bones. Days later Jim came too and lo and behold a miracle, he survived! However, by the time they realized he was going to pull through his bones had started to heal themselves. The doctor's would have had to rebreak each one of them to set them. Jim opted to leave things the way they were. Jim spent the next 30 years, bedridden. He was able to sit in a wheelchair for short periods of time. At first he was still able to get out to preach, not for many years. Jim found other ways to preach, with the use of new technology, the computer and emails.
