3 Richard L. Rice, 88 of Paoli died Oct. 8, at his home.
He was born in New Hope to the late Lincoln and Margaret Allen Rice.
Mr. Rice was a graduate of Tredyffrin/Easttown schools. He was involved in The Boy Scouts throughout his life and was a member of Troop 78, of which he was a former scoutmaster.
He was with the first camping group at the Horseshoe Scout Camp when it opened in 1927 and was there to celebrate its 70th anniversary with his great-grandson.
He was given the Silver Beaver award for his contribution to scouting and was a member of the Order of the Arrow.
Mr. Rice was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Marion Smith Rice, and by a daughter, Katheryn Grauten Lerch.
He is survived by three daughters, Virginia R. Lysak of Mt. Holly, N.J., Margaret R. Young of Berwyn and Constance L. of Philadelphia; a son, Richard David of River Ridge, La.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services are private.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America, Chester County Council, 504 S. Concord Road, West Chester, Pa. 19380.
