Claud Harold Davis, 88, longtime Klamath Falls resident and retired businessman, died Saturday at Washburn Manor. He was born in Wamic, Oregon and attended Grants Pass schools and Portland Behnke Walker Business College.
He came to Klamath Falls in 1907 to work in the office of McIntyre Transportation Co. where he billed out stages and collected freight bills.
On June 2, 1909, in Grants Pass, he married the former Ethel L. Riggs and they moved to Galice where he was co-manager of the Galice Store, a commissary for the mines. When the mine shut down he moved with his family to Klamath Falls on Feb. 29, 1912.
That first summer Mr. Davis ran the mail and passenger boats, the Spray and the Curlrew on Upper Klamath Lake for Henry Calkins until Calkins took a partner. Mr. Davis and Cal Clendening then purchased the Straw Dairy. After selling this business in 1915, Mr. Davis became a partner in the Johnstone Furniture Store with Mordorff and Wolfe. In 1924 he sold his interest in the business to his partners and he and his wife established the Claud H. Davis Co. whiche he operated until ill health forced his retirement Jan. 1, 1972.
Mr. Davis was a member of the Rotary Club and the Elks Lodge.
In addition to his widow he is survived by a son, Rex, Klamath Falls; sister, Mrs. Hugh Bixby, Eagle Pass, Tex.; grandsons Patrick B. Davis, Klamath Falls, and Col. R. Rod Davis, Hawaii; also three great-grandchildren.

He was born in Grants Pass to Ethel L. Griggs Davis and Claud H. Davis. The family moved permanently to Klamath Falls in 1912.
He was married to Emma Mariah Grimes Sept. 11, 1931, in Klamath Falls.
Mr. Davis was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and a life member of the Elk's Lodge No. 1247.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the invasion force of North Africa and Italy and later in other areas of the European theater. After WWII he entered the Army Reserve, attaining the rank of major.
Following the war, Mr. Davis became a partner with his parents in Davis Floor Covering. He became sole owner of the floor covering business in 1975 following the death of his father and the retirement of his mother. He closed the business in 1977 due to ill health.
Survivors include his wife, Mariah Davis, Klamath Falls; sons, Rod Davis, Salem, and Patrick B. Davis, Klamath Falls; grandchildren, Scott R. Davis, Pusan, South Korea, Mark R. Davis, Klamath Falls, and Lora M. Griffith, Lanham, Md.;great-granddaughter, Lora Marie Davis.

Mrs. David worked as a retail clerk and was employed at various times by Montgomery Ward & CO., Sears Roebuck & CO. and Oregon Food Stores. She retired from Montgomery Ward & CO. in 1975.
Survivors include her sons, Reginald and Patrick Davis, both Klamath Falls; grandchildren, Scott Davis, Italy, Mark Davis, Klamath Falls and laura Griffith, Lanham, Md.; great-grandchildren, Mary, Jessica and Frank Griffith III, all Lanham; brother, Jim Grimes, Klamath Falls; numeruos nieces, nephews and cousins.
