Brundage was born Oct. 13, 1977, in Clinton, Iowa. His parents split up shortly thereafter and headed for opposite coasts; Brundage stayed with his paternal grandparents in the tiny Iowa town of Sabula.

Betty Brundage, who still lives there, had already raised five children of her own when her grandson came to stay.

He moved east when he was 12 to live with his father, Randy Brundage, and stepmother Donna in the Quakertown area.

He attended Quakertown Community High School, then earned his GED and started working a series of odd jobs. He fell for a girl named Brandy Bossier; they had a son in 1998, and a daughter two years later.

They later split up, court records say, and fought over child support and custody. She could not be reached for comment.

Murdered by his roommate, Daman Smoot on Oct. 4, 2004.
