Biography

Frederick Nyp was born on 26 November 1940 in Sarnia, Lambton, Ontario, Canada. He died on 26 February 2018, at age 77, in Wyoming, Kent, Michigan. He was buried on 5 March 2018 in Rosedale Memorial Park, Tallmadge, Ottawa, Michigan, Cremated.1
Nyp, Frederick - Frederick Nyp, 77, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 26, 2018 with his loving family by his side. Before his passing, Fred forged a 77 year trail of laughter, generosity, compassion and wisdom.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 54 years, Mary, his children Shannon (Gerald) Nelson, Kim Nyp, and Tracy (Jim) Olson, and the grandchildren he adored, Calvin "The Mayor" Olson, Hannah "Sweet Pea" Olson, and Devin "Big Man" Nelson, Zach (Kasey) Olson, and Alicia (Ben) Kleyn. He also leaves behind his sisters Haremina Stehouwer, Joanne Tiemeyer, Martha Hall, his brother, Henry Nyp, sisters-in-law Diana (John) Freville and June Nyp, a very special nephew, Michael Nyp, and numerous other cherished family and friends.

Fred always said, "If you don't have family, you don't have anything." Fred grew up Sarnia, Ontario, Canada and was the youngest of seven children. He was a jokester his whole life and would tell everyone the best three years of his life were second grade. He had a passion for all sports, but a special affinity for hockey. He was a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, even through the years when they made it tough to be one. He played sports his whole life and excelled at each one. Fred was even talented enough to try out for the Detroit Tigers. Yearly, he was asked to be the honorary umpire for the Grandville Fourth of July Guns vs. Hoses softball game, playing tricks on players during the game whenever he could. Fred would give the shirt off his back to anyone. He always put others before himself and loved unconditionally. He was very proud to be Canadian; he loved his homeland. He also loved the United States and would say to those curious about his patriotism, "This country has been nothing but good to me." Fred loved eating out, always enjoyed a good cocktail, and being with family. Not necessarily in that order. He despised traveling, being late to anything, and politicians. Not necessarily in that order.

Fred hated very few things in his life, but funerals were at the top of his list. Instead, please come to a celebration of his life on Monday, March 5, 2018 at Kentwood Community Church. Services are at 10:30 a.m; visitation at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor his memory by donating in his name to the Kent County Veterans Honor Guard. Envelopes will be available at the church. Per his request, cremation has taken place. Interment will take place at a later date at Rosedale Memorial Park Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the Kent County Veterans Honor Guard for their service. They also thank the staff at MetroHospital ICU for their care and compassion for this incredible man.
