ALLYN E. 'SMOKEY' BURROUGHS, 79 BELVIDERE - Allyn E. "Smokey" Burroughs, 79, of Belvidere died Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, in Hospice Care of Madison, Wis., after a short illness. Born March 18, 1929, in Belvidere, the son of Charles O. and Daisy W. (Lewis) Burroughs. He was employed as a bartender-manager for various clubs, including the VFW and American Legion. Al was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, John Hugo Kaiser VFW Club and American Legion Club, Loyal Order of the Moose, Belvidere Lodge 295 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie Lodge 3414. He is a graduate of Belvidere High School, Class of 1949. Al is survived by daughters, Carolyn D. (Kurt) Stroup of Stoughton, Wis., Kay S. White, of Cincinnati; son, John (Candace) Burroughs of St. Petersburg, Fla.; stepchildren, Jeanine Gregory and Phillip (Carol) Bergeron, both of Bradenton, Fla.; grandchildren, Machelle (Andy) Pyle, Jennifer and Lisa White, Valerie and Eric Rangel, Ryan and Ian Hyde and Julieanne Bien and Johnna Brennan; great-grandchildren, Miranda Kuhn and Tayler Phillips. Al was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Clyde; and granddaughter, Jaclyn Bien. Mass of the resurrection at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, in Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Dr. Joyce Beaulieu, rector, officiating. Burial in Belvidere Cemetery. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Funeral Home, 218 W.
