CEDAR FALLS-Jerry Roger Youde, 62, Cedar Falls, Iowa, formerly of Sutherland, Iowa, passed away May 17, 2012, in Cedar Falls.
Services were held Tuesday, May 22, at the United Church of Christ in Cedar Falls. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Cedar Falls.
Jerry was born Dec. 20, 1949, to Roger and Lorene (Kopp) Youde, growing to manhood on the farm south of town. He spent his youth attending Sutherland Community Schools and this is where he met the love of his life, Cynthia Hill. Jerry graduated from Sutherland High School in 1968. He went on to attend and graduate from Iowa State University with a degree in journalism. Jerry and Cynthia were married May 8, 1970, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, just as Jerry had predicted in grade school in a note he had passed to her.
Jerry was an editor at two newspapers, one in North English, Iowa, and one in Elkader, Iowa. The family settled in Cedar Falls when Jerry became the advertising manager for Clay Equipment. Currently he was the sales manager for Bruns Machine, Cedar Falls.
Jerry was a wonderful son, husband, father, grandfather and friend. All who knew him appreciated his love for his family and his wonderful sense of humor. He loved to tell stories about his kids and their escapades. He told many stories, usually at his own expense, of growing up on the farm. Jerry truly enjoyed spending time with his family, attending all the kids’ events, being a great dad and grandfather. Jerry was active in the United Church of Christ in Cedar Falls; he had held many positions within the church including president. He was usually found on Sunday in one of the Sunday School rooms teaching the children, most notably in the nursery with the littlest ones. His hobbies were the necessities of life - repairing all the cars and working on the house.
