2,3 Clarence is the 4th youngest child of Herman and Grace. His mother had wanted to name him Charles Wesley, but Aunt Edith gave that name to a son first, so C.W. became Clarence Warren. The timing of his birth was such that his childhood was a difficult one. He was only 7 when his mother died, and 10 when his father died. A teacher offered to take him in, to raise him and make sure that he got to school. Being very young, he thought that the family had rejected him, and found this very distressing. After some time, he was reunited with his siblings at the Stark residence at 600 N. DeWitt. He sang tenor in the choir at his church. He served in the U.S.Army, and then went to work for General Motors from which he retired
