Died, at the residence of his daughter, Mrs Andrew McLeigh, Nov 25, 1893, after a very brief illness. Mr. John Strawn, aged 87 years. Mr. Strawn had been a resident of this vicinity for many years. Two sons and one daughter and one brother live here, his wife having died a number of years ago. Funeral services were held Nov. 28th and the remains interred in the cemetery here.

Following is the obituary of William Strawn who for a long time resided near Stanley, Iowa, and is well known here.
William Archer Strawn was born the 18th day of February, 1850, near Rockford, Illinois, where he grew to his manhood and on November 27, 1876, was united in marriage to Nellie B. Recoy and in the following year they came to Fayette County, Iowa, where they made their home which was blessed with eleven children. Mrs. Strawn preceeded him in death October 16, 1903. Also, two children having died while young preceeded him in death. He passed away at the home of his son, C.F. Strawn of Arlington, Iowa where William had made his home for more than a year on July 31, 1926, being seventy-six years, six months and twelve days old. Those left to mourn his passing are the nine children: Jesse LeRoy of Oregon, Alfred Lee of South Dakota, John W. of Arlington, Iowa, Ross of Wisconis, Cora of Stanley, Iowa, Clare of Arlington, Iowa, Vern of Stanley, Iowa. Also, his two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Moat of Illinois and Mrs. Emma Shelton of Colorado and one brother, John Strawn of Oelwein, Iowa, twenty-six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The funeral was held and burial was made at the beautiful Union Church and cemetary, August 3, 1926. The service being conducted by the United Brethern minister of Wadena, Stanley A. Birdsail. A mixed quartette from Stanley sang 'Saved by Grace', 'No Disappointment in Heaven' and 'Beautiful Isle of Somewhere'. The bereaved ones friends of Stanley extend condolence to them in their sorrow.

22 OELWEIN - Duane L. Boies, 62, of Oelwein, died Monday morning, July 19, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 23, at the Church of Christ - Eastside in Oelwein with the Rev. Tony Arends officiating. Interment will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein, with military graveside rites conducted by the Oelwein American Legion Ross Reid Post 9 Honor Guard.
Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein and for one hour before the service at the church on Friday.
A memorial fund has been established.

Duane Lynn Boies was born April 20, 1948 at Independence, Iowa, the son of Gaylord and Betty (Bark) Boies. He graduated in 1966 from West Delaware High School in Manchester. Duane then served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1968 until he was honorably discharged in 1970. Duane was united in marriage to Judith Marie (Eckert) Batterson on Sept. 15, 1973 at the Wadena Community Presbyterian Church. Duane worked at Walnut Grove in Independence for a short time and then worked for Farm Service at the Hazleton plant until his retirement due to his health in 1994. In recent years, Duane worked part-time at Wapsi Supper Club in Independence and Dick's Café and J's Café both in Oelwein.
Duane enjoyed life and had a hearty sense of humor. He enjoyed helping people whatever their needs may be. Duane was a Yankees fan and an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. He had a heart for babies and children. Duane so enjoyed and loved his family and friends, especially his five grandchildren, Ashley and Austin Aylsworth of Wadena, Breanna and Nathan Decher of Oelwein and six week old Reagan Shea Boies of Marion. He was a member of the Church of Christ Eastside where he had served as trustee and deacon.
Duane is survived by his wife Judy Boies of Oelwein; children, Brent Duane (Mandy) Boies of Marion, Brett Batterson of Volga, Brenda (Michael) Decher of Oelwein and Beth (Ron) Aylsworth of Wadena; five grandchildren; two brothers, Keith (Laurie) Boies of Earlville and Brian Boies of Manchester; six sisters, Marjorie Lamphier of Oelwein, Carol Lynn of Quasqueton, Shirley (Vernon) Feldman of Dundee, Faith Steffen of Manchester, Connie (Roger) Erickson of Manchester and Barbara (Robert) Volk of Hiawatha.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Dennis and Jerry and a sister Beth.
