2 Eugene "Gene" LaVerne Geistfeld, 63, of 1060 27 th St., Mation, died Saturday, February 8, 2003, in his home following a long illness. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2003, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Marion, by the Rev. Thomas E. Hedtke and Vicar Jason Shaw. Graveside services: 3 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 11) at Murdock Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, and from 10 a.m. until service time at the church on Wednesday.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy; two sons, Ronald Geistfeld and wife Regina of Birch Run, Michigan, and Larry Geistfeld and wife Helen of Pelia; a daughter, Joni Geistfeld and David Christiansen of Marion; a sister Karen Stewart and husband Alan of Victoria, Texas; and two grandchildren, Madelynne Marie Geistfeld and Tristen Levi Christiansen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Julie and a brother, Loren.
Eugene was born the son of Ernest and Nellie Polege Geistfeld on August 30, 1939, in Independence, Iowa. He was married to Nancy McLeish on June 18, 1961, in Oelwein. for thirty-five years, Eugene was employed by Rockwell-Collins, where he was a raw material inspector and engraver and where he had the opportunity to work on the Apollo program.. Eugene retired in 1995. He also drove a school bus for the Marion and Linn-Mar School districts. Eugene was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church.
Eugene was an avid camper and traveler and loved his Hawkeyes. Whenever you would go to visit him you would most likely find him working in the yard. Eugene was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
