Biography

George Kennard Berden was born on 30 November 1886 in Sanilac County, Michigan.1 He died before 1940 in Fennville, Allegan, Michigan.1
George Kennard Berden was a Teacher in Fennville High School.1 At one point, 1928, George lived in Belle Fountain, Ohio. He was a teacher.
---------
"George Berden was born in the thumb of Michigan in Sanilac county and he died of pneumonia while living in Fennville, Michigan. No hospital in Fennville, so he probably died in the hospital at Allegan, Michigan. Eleanor and Clara (George's wife) were present at his death. George was on the staff of the Fennville High School and Bill Creason remembers him very well. Bill was a high school student and George came out to the Creason farm--he would test soil, supervise uprooting of trees, etc. Bill says George was a neat guy--very outgoing--talked and raced (between corn rows) with Bill & his brother Woody. Bill observed George dancing, and decided that was the way he wanted to dance and still does to this day. Yes, Eleanor Berden, George's daughter, is alive and well in Lansing, Michigan--just recently retired from state government work. Her address: Dr. Eleanor Berden, 2630 Libbie Dr., Lansing, MI 49417; 517-322-0283. Eleanor has been more interested and involved in the Berden family than I. She is the one to contact to get addresses of family members. Also, Woody Rawlinson has the address of one of Granma Nora's half sisters--she lives in Florida, I think." Biography

David Rawlinson Tashjian was born on 29 May 1940 in Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo, Michigan. He died on 31 October 2001, at age 61, in New York.1,2
When Davy was little, he went to live in a facility for the mentally impaired. At least one facility that he lived in was named "Ferncliff". In 1980, he was transferred to a group home in Tarrytown, New York. He is still residing in Tarrytown as of today's date (October 2000). The following letter was written to Georgian and David Tashjian from their friends Rev. and Beatrice Sulahian in January 1980:

"A few days ago we went to visit David at his new home in Tarrytown... you may like to have our reaction to the new home. We were quite impressed. It is a very old home, in very good condition. I think these old houses are much nicer than the new cracker boxes they are building now. David's bedroom, which he shares with one other person, is twice the size of his room at Ferncliff. At this time there were 8 residents, - his friends from Ferncliff. They all seemed very happy and very much at home. They are still involved in the same workshop, and the home has a van that transports them there, or wherever they need to go. At the time of our visit, we met the assistant supervisor... and a worker. The supervisor .. was out at the time. Also (another worker) happened to drop in at the time. She works at the office in Tarrytown which handles the various homes in that area. Apparently, there is more than one. All of these people were very pleasant and seemed interested in the project. All and all, our reaction to this new move was very favorable, and seems to be for the better. David was fine, in excellent spirits... you can relax with the knowledge that David is settled and happy in his new environment. The atmosphere is that of a big family rather than an institution.
