Edwin O. Mead, 89, of Montrose, Pa., passed away on Thursday, June 24, 2004, at the home he shared with his wife, Bernice (Shimansky) Mead, whom he married on March 6, 1943. Born December 9, 1914 in Heart Lake, Pa., he was the son of the late Glen E. and Coral A. (Green) Mead. In addition to his wife, survivors include his loving children, Edwin J. "Pete" and Helen S. Mead, Montrose, Pa.; Anne Yankay, Bloomsburg, Pa.; Marvin Martin, Concord, N.C.; William T. and Kathi Mead, Point Pleasant, N.J.; Eudonna J. and Bruce Legg, Montrose, Pa.; and Rick L. Mead, Philadelphia, Pa. Ed and Bernice have 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, that have brought great joy to their lives. He is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Clifford J. and Ruth Mead, Montrose, Pa. He was predeceased by his siblings, Elbert Mead, Glendora Wells, Kathryn Jane Wilcox; and grandson, Dwight R. Mead. Ed was a very loving, caring, kind and generous man. During his nearly 90 years, he complimented his hard work by finding pleasure in airplanes, birds, hunting, flowers and gardening. Ed, a life-long farmer, was proud of his service for 9 years on the Susquehanna County ASCS Committee and his lifetime membership of the Dairylea Cooperative, including his contributions on their Resolutions Committee. He was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Montrose, Pa.
Services will be 11 a.m., Monday, June 28, 2004 at the First Presbyterian Church of Montrose, Pa. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, June 27 at the Bartron-Myer Funeral Home, Inc., a Selected Independent Funeral Home, 74 Church Street, Montrose, Pa.
