Eugene WINTERMOTE "Gene", 69, born Dec. 20, 1938, in Miles City, Mont., to Charley and Virginia WINTERMOTE. As a boy, his family ranched in the Ismay, Mont. area and operated the 6 Mile Bar and Restaurant. Gene graduated from high school as the class valevictorian at Plevna, Mont., in 1957. He then attended Montana State University at Missoula. He left for Las Vegas, in 1959, with $100 in his pocket. Gene served his country in the U.S. Army in France in 1962 and 1963, returning to Las Vegas. He worked at the Fremont, the Horseshoe and the Golden Nugget as a bar boy, bartender, 21 dealer, shift boss and pit boss. Gene then bought and operated a bar, "Jennie V's," in downtown Las Vegas during the early 1970's. His next venture was project manager during the construction phase of Vegas World, of which he became the casino manager. He then went on to own and operate a home repair business "The House Doctor." His last job was a carpenter with local 1977, until he retired at age 65. Gene passed away July 9, 2008, from complications of surgury relating to lung cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Helen (Larry) Thompson, both of Island Park, Idaho, and Gay (Bob) Cunningham of Hysham and Libby, Mont.; and a brother Parke. Gene is survived by his wife, of 28 years, Marilyn; his son, Tony; his daughter, Jennifer (Mike Ashworth) Hillegrass; Scott Hillegrass; his three granddaughters, Samantha, Kevyn and Jacquiline Hillegrass; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held from 4-8 p.m., Monday, July 21, 2008, at Davis Funeral Home, 2127 W. Charleston Blvd. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Bl;vd., Boulder City, NV 89005, (702-486-5920).
