Winnie Peters, a resident of Medford since 1960, died Sunday, February 3, 2008 of natural causes. She was 89.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 8, 2008 at Perl Funeral Home in Medford. Interment will be at Siskiyou Memorial Park.

Mrs. Peters was born in Eden, Idaho, the daughter of Benjamin and Orpha (Fox) Backlund. She was one of eight children.

She attended grade and high school in Winchester, Idaho and then attended Good Samaritan Hospital Nurses training in Portland, Ore., where she received a Registered Nursing Degree. Winnie worked as an R.N. in Portland and Eugene, Ore.

She married Richard Peters on September 12, 1950 in Eugene, Ore. Mr. Peters was in the lumber business in Eugene, Ore., Eureka, Calif., and Port Orford, Ore., before retiring to Medford.

Winnie enjoyed raising her family and playing golf. She raised four boys who were active in sports and school activities which kept her busy and physically fit.

Survivors include her husband; four sons, Greg Peters of San Diego, Calif., Seth Peters of Emmett, Idaho, Rick Peters of Willsonville, Ore., and Rock Peters of Battle Ground, Wash.; four grandchildren; two brothers, Jim Backlund of Colts Neck, N.J., and John Backlund of Bend, Ore.

She was preceded in death by one brother; and four sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Flights, 2020 Milligan Way, Medford OR 97504.

Perl Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
