Steven Wayne Baker was born on 1 June 1956 in Mason City, Cerro Gordo, Iowa.1 He died on 14 January 2010, at age 53.1 He was buried in Baldwin Memorial Cemetery, Robertsdale, Baldwin, Alabama.1

He was principal of Orange Beach Elementary.
He was born in Mason City, Iowa and grew up in Hartselle. He graduated from Hartselle High School in 1975 where he was a standout football player and received an appointment and football scholarship to West Point Military Academy. He returned home to help with the family after his father became ill and continued his education, graduating from Athens State University with a B.S. degree in education. He began his teaching and coaching career at Hartselle High School. He married the former Susan Rawls on Dec. 19, 1981 and began his teaching career in the Baldwin County Public School System, working at Rosinton, Foley Middle and Gulf Shores Middle. He received his Master's in Administration from the University of South Alabama and became the assistant principal at Gulf Shores Middle School prior to becoming principal of Orange Beach Elementary in 2001. He was instrumental in the planning and development of the Sea, Sand and Stars Science and Nature Center located on the campus of Orange Beach Elementary School.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roger Wayne Baker of Hartselle.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Rawls Baker of Gulf Shores; daughter, Whitney Renee Baker of Auburn; son, Steven Wayne "Rocky" Baker II; mother, Gloria Baker of Decatur; five sisters, Sandy Hubbard of Spokane, Wash., Julie Reynolds of Decatur, Barbie Braman of Minneapolis, Minn., Linda Warren of Huntsville and Angie Brannan of Tampa, Fla.; a host of other devoted relatives, friends, colleagues and students.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 4 p.m. at Robertsdale United Methodist Church.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the UBGOOD Steven W. Baker Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of the Alabama Gulf Coast Area Education Foundation, P.O. Box 5050, Gulf Shores, AL 36547-5050 or Sea, Sand and Stars Science and Nature Center, 4900 Wilson Blvd., Orange Beach, AL 36561.
