Memorial To Cheryl
I met Cheryl in 1996. She was a vibrant 23 year old woman who had the world by the tail.

She was a little loud when she spoke and especially when she would get excited, but that was part of her charm. Even in the worst of times she always had a comment that could make you laugh.

We spent many a night with a large group of friends, having fun until the wee hours of the morning. Looking back I reflect on those days as some of the best of my life. Whether we were all just sitting around listening to music or out at a bar playing pool (which didn't happen that often, we were all young and broke). It didn't matter where we were or what we were doing, Cheryl was always there and always the life of the party.

We were all kids at the time, none of us really sure where or what we were doing, but not Cheryl, even though she was fun and hung out all night with the rest of us, she had her act together. She had a career as a travel agent, knew where she was going and what she wanted out of life. Sometimes I wonder what she was doing hanging out with all of us that still hadn't quite figured it out yet.

As with all things in life, changes happened. The party cant last forever. We all slowly started going our separate ways, creating and building our paths for life as real adults. In this process you learn a lot about yourself and your friends. Even though the parties didn't rage on until the sunrise anymore we all had formed a bond that would last a lifetime.

Several years later Cheryl's mom passed away and she ran into some really rough times that this life seems to dish out randomly and unfortunately she got delt that hand. Even through her struggles she kept high spirits. Even when life was flat out kicking her in the teeth she was still able to smile and make you laugh.

In September of 2008 she was diagnosed with cancer. A type that was very difficult to treat and fight. Even facing her own mortality, her spirits were still high. I honestly don't know where she drew her strength from, I don't think I could have been nearly as strong as she was. I remember talking to her on the phone while she was in the hospital and she was the same old Cheryl, cracking jokes and poking fun.

The day finally came when the doctors could do no more for her and she was moved Memorial To Cheryl

The day finally came when the doctors could do no more for her and she was moved to a hospice facility. The entire time she had been surrounded by family and friends. If we could all be so lucky to have that many people that care so much about us.

I went to Phoenix for Christmas and on Dec 26th, Sean and I went to go see Cheryl. She wasn't doing well, she was very tired but still seemed happy. We sat with her and chatted about old times. On this day life finally delt its final blow or gave Cheryl its biggest gift, depending on how you view it. At 1:53 pm Cheryl took her last breath with Sean and me at her side. We were privileged enough to know her in life and honored to be at her side as she made her way onto her next journey.

Cheryl fought some amazing battles in her life but nothing ever broke her spirit.

I am so glad to have been able to call her a friend. We all love you so much Cheryl and you will be missed. I hope that you have as happy and wonderful a time on your next journey as you did in this one here with us.
