2 Winfield S. "Sonny" Drake Jr. Of Pine City, NY entered eternal life with our Lord Jesus Christ Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012 following a valiant and persevering battle with cancer at the age of 82. Born in Elmira on February 24, 1929, Sonny was the son of the late Winfield S. & Naomi Rockwell Drake, Sr. Sonny was a true gentleman. His steady, gentle presence brought comfort to many and honor to his family. At the age of 12, Sonny started working to support his family after the untimely death of his father. Dedicated to his country, he enlisted in the US Army during the Korean Conflict then worked for New York Telephone Company for 42 years up until his retirement. Sonny's great loves in life were his faith, his family and Keuka Lake. A dedicated family man, Sonny was creative, logical and resourceful. His many interests inspired a love of learning in his children and grandchildren. He had a lifelong, abiding fondness for Keuka Lake, living and vacationing there for over 65 years of his life. He also enjoyed vacationing in California, especially Coronado, CA. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #95 for over 50 years, American Legion Post #154 in Elmira Heights and a member of the Downtown Health Club. He was a long-time member and served as the past President and Vice President of TELCO Federal Credit Union. Sonny was predeceased by his brother, Gerald Drake. Surviving is his loving family, wife and unwaveringly devoted soul mate of 49 years, Janice Antrim Drake, Pine City, NY; children, Winfield Scott (MaryBeth) Drake, III with daughter Taylor Elise, Elmira, NY; Jennifer Drake (Lawrence) Gacka with children Sarah Elizabeth and Lawrence Winfield, Mechanicsburg, PA; best friend and brother-in-law, Samuel Antrim, Paso Robles, CA; brothers, Donald (Barbara) Drake, Anaheim, CA; and Carl (Valetta) Drake, Carson City, Nevada; many nieces and nephews; and faithful dog, Gracie. In keeping with Sonny's wishes, there will be no prior visitation. A Memorial Service for this beautiful soul will be held at the convenience of the family.
