3 ROCKPORT, MA - Janet L. (Morris) Gallo, 71, died Tuesday, May 19, 2009 in the Den Mar Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rockport following an extended illness.
Born in Sussex, N.J. on March 15, 1938, she was the daughter of the late John and Florence (Shauger) Morris. She grew up in Sussex on the family farm. She had resided in Brooklyn, N.Y. and Cedar Grove, N.J. for many years before moving to Rockport in 1974. She was a graduate of North Shore Community College and graduated with honors from Salem State College with a BS Degree in Social Work.
Janet was employed as a case manager for the Department of Mental Health for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for many years before retiring in 2003. In retirement she enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters, family in New Jersey and her horse "Corey Jo". She also once owned several other horses stabled at the Lane's Farm in Rockport.
She is survived by her daughter, Marisa N. Reilly of Gloucester; her son, Angelo F. Gallo of Rockport; two beloved granddaughters, Chelsie M. Reilly and Taylor R. Reilly, both of Gloucester; a sister, Evelyn Martin of Middletown, N.Y.; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Morris of New Jersey and Delma Morris of North Carolina; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many dear friends. She was also predeceased by a sister, Betty Morris and seven brothers, Robert, Andrew, John, Raymond, Miles, Douglas and William Morris.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral services will be held on Tuesday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle St., Gloucester at 7 p.m. The family will be receiving relatives and friends prior to the service from 6 to 7 p.m. Interment will be held in the North Hardyston Cemetery in New Jersey.
