1 Obituary
Published in the Hinckley News, June 11, 1936
Mr. I.D. Curryer, one of the old timers of this territory, died suddenly at his home in Hinckley, Monday morning, June 8, of a stroke of paralysis. Mr. Curryer had not been very well for some months but his unexpected death was a severe shock to his many friends. He had planned a fishing trip on Monday with a neighbor, Mr. Chas Lundin, and one of Mr. Lundin's guests, and had his lunch and everything ready to go. He went to the well to pump a pail of water and slumped to the well platform dead, and was found there a few minutes later.
Ivan Drake Curryer was born on May 22, 1871, at Mankato, Minnesota, son of Dr. and Mrs. J. C. Curryer. On January 13, 1894, he was united in marriage to Miss Bina Larson, also of Mankato, and in 1900 they came with their families to Hinckley where they have since resided, well known and respected pioneers of this territory.
There were four children, Ruby M. Favelsy, Oshkosh, WI; Sadie Gertrude, deceased; J.C. Curryer, Milwaukee, WI; and Mrs. Ivene Olsen, Pasadena, CA, Also surviving him are two grandchildren, Mary Jane Curryer and Harlow Henry Favelsky; two brothers, John H. Curryer, Des Moines, Iowa and Alanson M. Curryer, Hollywood, CA. All of the children and the brother from Des Moines were in Hinckley this week for the services.
Our readers will remember Tales of the Old Timers. in these columns some few years ago. Mr. Curryer enjoyed the work of compiling the historical facts in those articles, and was always much interested in the development of the community and although not a member, interested in the Hinckley Fire Survivors Association which contained many of his companions of the earl logging days in this part of Minnesota.
He was also active in community and civic affairs, in commercial organizations, and for many years has efficiently served this village as a Justice of the Peace.
Mr. Curryer was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church of Hinckley here and probably one of the best known ministers in the state for the past two years located at International Falls, was called here to conduct the funeral services which will be held at the Trinity Church at 2 o'clock this afternoon, Thursday, June 11, 1936; Casket bearers are J.S. Patrick, H. B. Lyon, A. W. Nyline, O.B. Thompson, W. J. Hoffman and C. E. Lundin.
And so passes another of those rugged pioneers who helped to turn Northern Minnesota from a wilderness into a charming farming country, and the many friends of Mr. and Mrs. Curryer extend sincere sympathy to the bereaved family in their hour of sorrow.
