Funeral services for J. Phillip Mahoney, 83, who died Tuesday, have been set for 9 a.m. Saturday at Cathedral of the Risen Christ 35th Street and Sheridan Boulevard. Buried will be in Calvary cemetery.

Mahoney, in partnership with former Gov. Victor Anderson, was responsible for much of the development in northeast Lincoln and the Havelock area.

Mahoney, who built more than 1,000 homes in the city, also aided in the development of the Bishop Heights area of Lincoln, Inc.

Mahoney and Anderson purchased the former Veterans Building at 12th and O streets in 1960, remodeling it and naming it the Anderson Building.

Mahoney, who was a former Lincoln Chamber of Commerce director, was appointed to the Lincoln City Housing Board in 1952. He was a member of the authority for twenty years and was credited with securing the funds to construct Mahoney Manor, 4241 N. 61st Street, which is named in his honor.

Mahoney Park also was named in his honor, after he donated $95,000 worth of land to the city for construction of the Anderson Branch Library at Fremont Street and Touzalin Avenue.

Mahoney was a member of Former Gov. Frank Morrison's Judicial Nominating Commission and participated in the People to People program under the Eisenhower administration.

He was also a past director of the Lincoln University Club, Capitol Mutual insurance Company Insurance Growth Industries, Life Investors of Nebraska, Lincoln Bank South and Peterson Building Corp. he was a past director of the Lincoln Sanitary District.

He was past president of the Veteran's Building Corp. and the past Vice President of Gordon and Morgan Machine Co.

He was a former president of the Green Fez Club and a knight of St. Gregory.

Mahoney is survived by his wife, Davise: daughters, Jane M. Neal and Ellen M. Hopper, both Lincoln: brother Edward of Lincoln; and six grandchildren.

She was a retired banker and owner of The Martell State Bank and was an insurance agent for Martell Insurance Agency. Lynne was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. She was a former fund-raising chairwoman for Nebraska Public Television, was a lifetime member of Lincoln General Hospital Woman's Auxiliary and was a past member of the Community Women's Club. Lynne enjoyed and supported the fine arts throughout her life. While in college, she participated in summer stock theater in Toledo, Ohio. She was also a former member of the Advisory Board of the Lied Center for Performing Arts and a member of the University Place Art Center.
