Purvis, Betty Marie
On June 2, 2011, Betty Marie Purvis passed away peacefully with her husband, Spence, at her side.
Betty as born in Jamestown, Calif., on Sept. 3, 1924, to Marie and William Wise. She moved to Whidbey Island 25 years ago where she joyfully resided until she went to be with the Lord.
Betty is survived by her husband of 16 years, Spence; daughter Donna Cockerton (Ward) of Rocklin., Calif.; son Kevin Reynolds (Mary) of Olympia; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Karen Bell and son David Reynolds.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the Hospice nurses of Whidbey General Hospital and to the staff of Maple Ridge. A memorial service was held June 1 at the Coupeville United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Coupeville United Methodist Church, Whidbey General Hospital Hospice program, or a charity of your choice.

Richard "Dern" Leroy Dernovich, 62, died on June 7, 2008, at his home in Grove, Okla.
He was born Oct. 19, 1945, in Rock Springs, to August Dernovich Sr. and Rose Dernovich. He was raised in Rock Springs and graduated from Rock Springs High School. After high school, he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
He married Dolores Rae Hall in Nebraska. Together they had two daughters, Breezy and Shawna, and a son, Richard Jr. They later divorced.
He worked at Bridger Coal for many years as a coal hauler operator. After leaving Rock Springs, he took a job at Newmont Gold in Nevada as a gold hauler operator.
He married Jean Whiteside while living in Elko, Nev. Together they had a son, Devon.
After leaving Newmont Gold, he traveled the western United States. He eventually moved to Grove. He was passionate about classic cars. He loved searching for old cars that he hoped he could restore one day. He made a lot of friends who shared this passion. His pride and joy was his candy apple red 1939 Ford Coupe.
He is survived by his wife, Jean of Cordell, Okla.; daughter, Breezy Bird and husband of Idaho Falls, Idaho; son, Devon of Cordell; brother, August Dernovich and wife of Rock Springs; two grandchildren; an uncle; numerous cousins and their families; and many nieces and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rose Dernovich and August Dernovich Sr.; son, Richard Leroy Jr.; daughter, Shawna Lynn; sister, Linda Kay Onisto and an uncle.
Military graveside services will be at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Rock Springs, Wyoming.
