Carlotta Bullock
F, #95707, b. 19 March 1881
Biography
Carlotta Bullock was born on 19 March 1881 in Tombstone, Cochise, Arizona.
Bit of a story there - She is the niece of the famous Charlotte Mignon "Carlotta" "Lotta" Crabtree.
The 1880 census (taken on June 1) in Goodwin, Plumas County, California shows a John A Crabtree (23 yrs) living with Henry Leopold (44 yrs) and his wife Henrietta (40 yrs) and their son, Henry (2 yrs old) and daughter Annie Leopold who is 14 years old. John and Annie went to Tombstone, Arizona, where in 1881 John Crabtree, as a "squatter," acquired a lot of land in Tombstone and built a cheap shack or one-room cabin where he lived with Annie. At the age of 15 years old, Annie gave birth to Carlotta Crabtree, who was born on March 19, 1881; the Doctor present at the birth was Dr. N.S. Gilerson. Lotta Crabtree (John's sister) the famous singer, has her picture in the Birdcage Saloon, in Tombstone, and states “She sang in the Bird Cage Theatre while on a visit to her brother John Crabtree, during the winter of 1881/1882.” John then abandoned both Annie and Carlotta. Annie then left the child in the care of May Leslie and Ed Bullock, and went to find her husband. May Leslie later gave the child to Ed Bullock, the former partner of Crabtree, whom they had a livery business in Tombstone, and on June 3, 1884, Ed Bullock petitioned the Probate Court of Pima County, Arizona, for adoption of the child Carlotta Crabtree, and she was raised as “Lottie” Bullock. She would be educated by the Sisters of St Joseph's, in Tuscon.
John A. Crabtree married Annie E. Harris in New York on November 24, 1899; they had no children. After Annie E (Harris) Crabtree died in October18, 1918 in Boston, John went to live at Charleston Township, North Carolina, while there he met Andrew Thomas Lollis, a farmer, who lived near him. About November 1, 1919, he went to live with Lollis; telling Lollis his wife died the year before, and that he had no family, and he wanted to adopt a son of Lollis, who was about fifteen years old, but Lollis said “no”. On January 29, 1920, Crabtree died in Lollis's house, (of Jaundice - liver disease) and his body was sent to New York and was buried at Woodland Cemetery, at the request of his sister. John's father, John Ashworth Crabtree (Sr) had also abandoned his wife and family, and died in England 1894.
