Donald "Don" Paul White 88, Feb. 2, 2009. Born Nov. 26, 1920, in Kansas City, Mo., to Harry Newton White and Jeanette Elizabeth (Buerglin) White. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, John, William and Lonnie; sisters, Martha Earhart and Jean Garbiso. Survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Ann (Petrie) White; sons, Gordon White, Roger (Terri) White; sister, Dorothy (Robert) Martin; sister-in-law, Mildred (Fred) Mang; brother-in-law, Jimmie (Marlene) Petrie; grandchildren, Candace Walker, Jeramie Bacca, Jamie Verhoeff; great-grandchildren, Brittain Walker, Jaydin, Kambria and Danya Bacca, Cyle Verhoeff, Jalyn Armenta; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Don was raised in Boone, Colo., where he helped his dad and brothers with the family farm and trucking business. He attended Boone High School, graduating in 1938. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army/Air Corps as a radio operator in the 3rd Mobile Radio Squadron, attaining the rank of staff sergeant. He was involved in the European Theatre of Operations from Normandy through Northern France and Central Europe to the Rhineland and the occupation of Berlin. His primary duty in the military was to send and transmit coded messages via Morse code key. Some of his most memorable stories involved the de-coding of German messages regarding troop movements and also sending and relaying messages during the famous search for Private Ryan. After his discharge, he went to work for the Public Service Company of Colorado, Pueblo Gas and Fuel Division, where he retired after 37 years as superintendent of gas operations. Don was a past member of the IBEW union, the Exchange Club of Pueblo, and after his retirement, was a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed trips to Laughlin, Nev., Cripple Creek and loved watching football, particularly the Denver Broncos and CU Buffs. At his request, no viewing. Graveside service, 3 p.m. Saturday, Imperial Memorial Gardens. Arrangements under the direction of Imperial Funeral Home.
