This house had the f irst telephone in the village. Edwin Lowrey, as the story goes, met his f uture wife, Rose Wright, over the telephone. She was an operator in Nia gara Falls Bell exchange.

E.D. Lowrey General Store, St. Davids
This store (one of two in St. Davids in that time) was built by Richard W oodruff (known as "King Dick") around 1812, who operated it until his d eath in 1872. George Woodruff was the next owner. E.D. Lowrey (Edwin Da vid Lowrey) operated the store from 1893 to 1896. His brother Charles M atthew Lowrey took over the business (1896-1910) and added two wings to t he existing building. Then again, E. D. Lowrey took over the store/post o ffice from 1910 to 1918 when Archie Woodruff bought it. Archie operated t he store until the late 1920s when he had to close the store. The hardw are store/Fruitman magazine were located in north part of the building a nd the post office in south section. The store was torn down in 1961.

LOWREY VINEYARDS
Edwin David Lowrey, a leading farmer whose descendants now own two exce ptional local wineries. FIVE ROWS CRAFT WINE is located in Niagara's St . David's Bench sub-appellation of the 5th generation Lowrey vineyards p roperty, a 35 acre vineyard [65 acres of farm land with 35 acres under v ine]. It is one of the smaller wineries producing around 500 a year. Da vid Jackson Lowrey first planted the vineyard in [1869], planting some o f the regions first grapes. Starting a tradition that Edwin David Lowre y and Howard Borden Lowrey succeeded until 1984 when Howard Wesley Lowr ey planted five rows of Pinot Noir, spiriting Wesley David Lowrey to cr aft wine.

The winery wishes to remain small. "It's just me, my mum and my dad" sa ys winemaker Wes Lowrey. The entire winery consists of a one room barn w here a small table is set up for tastings.
