Biography

Edna Della Shackelton was born on 10 June 1890 in Independence, Buchanan, Iowa.1,2 She and Earl Guy Whipple were married on 1 November 1911 in Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo, Michigan.3 She died on 4 February 1970, at age 79, in Lake City, Missaukee, Michigan.1,2 She was buried in Stittsville Cemetery, Stittsville, Missaukee, Michigan.2
Edna Whipple born Della Edna Shackelton at Independence, Iowa. Jan. 10, 1890 to Luman and Jennie Shackelton, passed to her rest Wednesday evening, Feb. 4th at Mercy Hospital after a long illness. She lived in Minnesota, Iowa, Virginia and the Dakota's before coming to Michigan in 1910. She attended school at Lake City before her marriage. In Nov. of 1911 at Kalamazoo, she was married to Earl Whipple, who survives her along with eight children. Four sons; Kenneth, Lauren, Doyle and Merle, all of Muskegon and four daughter, Mrs. C. J. (Irene) Orman's of Houghton Lake, Mrs. Otis (Laurel) Snyder of Lake City, Mrs. Thornton (Marvel) Kenyon of Zepherhills, Florida and Mrs. Lewis (Delma) Gresley of Whitehall; 35 grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildren; one brother Harold Shackelton and one sister, Miss Olive Shackelton, both of Lake City. The past 60 years she spent at Kalamazoo and Muskegon having lived most of the years at Lake City. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Stittsville Methodist Church. Rev. Carl D. Ferguson officiated with interment in the Stittsville Cemetery.
