Longtime Sonora resident Matthew "George" Hightower died Feb. 28 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. He was 57. Born in Laramie, Wyo., he had lived in Sonora for 49 years. He worked as a gold miner for six years. A graduate of an Angels Camp high school, he served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and was a member of E Clampus Vitus. Mr. Hightower is survived by his wife, Marian Hightower, of Sonora; sons, Matthew Hightower Jr. and Wayne Hightower, both of Reno, Nev.; brothers, Michael Hightower, of Lebec, and David Hightower, of Sacramento; sisters, Darlene Millikin, of Wyoming, Sheryl Edwards, of South Dakota, Deborah Petty, of Washington, and Rebecca Radovan, of Minnesota. A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Heuton Memorial Chapel. A graveside service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mountain Shadow Cemetery. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Arthur Hansen, Jr., was born on 12 March 1918.¹ He died on 28 December 1986, at age 68.¹ He was buried in Rio Vista Odd Fellows and Masonice Cemetery, Rio Vista, Solano, California.¹

Julia J. Lane was born on 9 January 1923.¹ She died on 8 July 1993, at age 70.¹ She was buried in Sunset Memorial Park, Gregson, Silver Bow, Montana.¹
