3 James L. Chaffin, 75, of Vesper, died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011, at his residence.
A celebration of Jim's life will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at Vesper Community Center, 5032 Benson Ave., Vesper.
Jim was born June 6, 1936, in Hamilton, Mont., to Amos and Frances (Kurth) Chaffin. Jim served in the U.S. Air Force from 1962 to 1970. He married Lola L. Buddenhagen on Dec. 23, 1966, in Waukau, Iowa. Jim graduated with a bachelor's degree in Education and attained master's degrees in both Education and Guidance and Counseling. Jim was a teacher and helped to develop the LEAP Program at Lincoln High School for many years.
Following his retirement from teaching, Jim and Lola were active for more than a decade in Border Collie Stock Dog Trialing throughout the Midwest, hosting several sanctioned trials on their farm.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Lola; devoted daughters, Judith (Tony) Caruso of Cottage Grove and Jacquline (Conrad) Kempinska of Basking Ridge, N.J.; loved granddaughter, Hannah; sister, Carol George (Vern) of Arizona; and brother, Wallace Chaffin of Montana. Jim is also survived by other family members.
In lieu of flowers, a scholarship will be established in Jim's name through Community Foundation of Greater South Wood County. In the interim, earmarked donations can be sent to Jim's daughter, Jackie Chaffin, at 21 Hunters Lane, Basking Ridge, N.J. 07920.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
