1 Charles, 79, of Carson City, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2013 at Spectrum Health-Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. Charles was born in Albion, PA. the son of Charles T. and Rose Marie (Swab) Carberry.
He graduated from Albion High School the class of 1951, Edinboro College with a teaching degree and later earned his Masters Degree from Eastern Michigan University.
Charles married Pamela Wintermute on June 6, 1964 in Bay City.
He taught at Carson City High School for many years. Charles was the head football coach at Carson and later helped at Alma College for ten years as an offensive backs coach.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Carson City, the Knights of Columbus and was a life member of the Alma Elks Lodge. Charles was an avid sports fan, enjoying golf and college athletics.
He served as Mayor of Carson City for four years and later as a City Councilman for 14 years.
Charles is survived by his wife, Pam of Carson City, sons Scott of Grand Rapids, Craig (Rhonda) of Williamston and granddaughters Karli and Erika Carberry. Also brother Fred (Marie) Carberry of Hendersonville, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Martha Caufman.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, May 30, 2013 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Carson City. A Rosary and Prayer Service was held.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Scholarship Fund or the Carson City Food Pantry.
