"Austintown- Funeral services will be held 11 AM Monday at Austintown Community Church for Mason S. Dyer age 84 of 1505 S. Turner Rd. who died Thursday afternoon at Briarfield of Ashley. Mason was born June 30, 1920 in Barberton, OH and was the son of John E. and Esta (Lawrentz) Dyer. He retired in 1979 from Youngstown Sheet and Tube where he had been an expediter. Mason was a member of the Austintown Community Church, had been a Boy Scout Leader for 30 years, was a member of the Barbershoppers Chapters of Youngstown and Warren, American Legion Post 15, Chatterbox, Past Supreme Commander of the Knights of Malta, Meander Masonic Lodge #765 of North Jackson, Grotto, Greeters and Old Timers. Mason had served in the U.S. Army during WWII, receiving the Bronze Star and Purple Heart and was a life member of the D.A.V. He was also a past member of the Youngstown Saddle and Bridle Club and was a graduate of Youngstown University where he was a member of the Phi Sigma Epsilon and the Alpha Phi Omega. He graduated with a degree in Engineering. Mason leaves his second wife, the former Louise Farmer whom he married Jan 1, 1994. He also leaves five children, Alicia (George) Brdek of Youngstown, John (Jo) Dyer of Newton Falls, David (Linda) Dyer of Virginia Beach, Va., Dennis (Edys) Dyer of Berlin Center, Susan (Art) Cargill of Struthers, three step-children, Miles A. (Deanna) Kimbel, Jr. of Springdale, Ark, John (Janet) Kimbel of Fayetteville, Ark, Terry (Linda) Kimbel of Cortland, 32 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife the former Doris Leonhart whom he married June 1, 1946 and died Feb. 20, 1991. He was also preceded in death by three brothers Edmond Dyer, Harold Dyer and Opie Taylor. Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 PM Sunday at the Lane Funeral Home-Austintown Chapel. The Masonic Lodge will hold a service 8:45 PM Sunday. The family requests that material contributions be made to the American Heart Assoc."
