Biography

Raymond Proper was born on 26 January 1922 in Ohio.1,2,2 He died on 9 August 1942, at age 20, in Soloman Islands (WWII sinking of the USS Quincy.)2
He was in the United States Navy during World War 2. He died when his ship was sank during the battle of Savo Island. His ship USS Quincy CA-39 sustained many direct hits which killed 370 men including the captain and 167 men wounded. She sank, bow first, at 2:38 a.m., being the first ship sunk in the area which was later known as Ironbottom Sound.
