Henry Ludwig Oppenborn Jr., 85, Hernando, died Wednesday, June 9, 2010, under the loving care of his family and Hospice of Citrus County at the Hospice House in Lecanto. A Funeral Service of Remembrance will be held on Monday, June 14, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with a Masonic service. Burial will follow at the Florida National Cemetery with military honors. Henry was a native Floridian, born and raised in Miami. A graduate of the University of Florida and University of Miami Law School, Henry was a Dade County Judge for over 20 years.
He served our country in the United States Army as a paratrooper, seeing combat in Korea, where he was wounded and received The Purple Heart. He also was awarded The Silver Star for bravery leading a rescue mission to recover wounded soldiers from an enemy stronghold. Henry retired from the Army with the rank of Major. He was a 33rd degree Mason and member of the Springs Masonic Lodge of Homosassa, and Past Master from 2007.
His survivors include his wife of 55 years, Bobbie Cameron Oppenborn; his daughter Anna W. Oppenborn, Miami, FL; and two sons, Henry L. "Hank" Oppenborn III, Hollywood, FL, and James B. and wife Heather Oppenborn, Fort Pierce, FL; and one grandson, Christopher James Oppenborn.
