AMERMAN, John R., Amerman Owned Dodge dealership, of Peapack, 85 John R. Amerman, 85, died on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007, at the Holly Manor Center in Mendham. Funeral services will be held at the Layton Funeral Home, 475 Main St., Bedminster, on Saturday, Aug. 25, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Pottersville Reformed Church Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mr. Amerman was born in Peapack on July 22, 1922, a son of the late Clayton and Dorothy Mildred Whitehouse Amerman. He had been a lifelong resident of Peapack. He graduated from Rider College in Lawrenceville with a bachelors degree in business and soon after graduating joined his familys business, Clayton Amerman Dodge, which his father founded in 1919. Mr. Amerman became president and owner/operator after his father's death in December 1962, and was active in business affairs for the rest of his life. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served with the 300th Hospital Corps, stationed in Italy. He was a member and past chief of the Peapack-Gladstone Fire Department and a member of the Peapack Reformed Church in Gladstone, the American Legion Post 216 in Peapack and the Prospect Masonic Lodge F&AM in Chester.
He was predeceased his wife wife, Jytte L. Amerman, in 1984, and is survived by a sister, Evelyn Rubright and her husband, David, of Gladstone; a niece, Susan Rubright and her husband, Ron Wilson, of Basking Ridge; two nephews, Roger Rubright and his wife, Linda, of Washington Township and Arthur Rubright and his wife, Teufel, of Manhattan; a stepdaughter, Christie Maloy of California and three stepgrandchildren.
