4,3 OSCAR LeVAN RAUP, JR., local photographer, died yesterday of a heart attack at his home, 24 Clinton Avenue. He was 44 years of age. He had been ill only a few minutes. Coming to Hagerstown 21 years ago to enter the photography business, Mr. Raup soon became active in many phases of community life. He was owner of the Raup Camera Center, Hotel Alexander Building, where a whole generation of photographers benefited by his guidance in technical and artistic phases of the use of the camera.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he was serving his second term on the church council, and was assistant organist, as well as soloist in the choir. He belonged to the American Guild of Organists. Mr. Raup also was a member of the Hagerstown Rotary Club, the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, and Friendship Lodge, AF&AM. He took an active part in Boy Scout work in this area. As a commercial photographer, he was particularly well known for his industrial work.
He was born in Fairmont, W.Va., the son of Oscar L. Raup, Sr., and Louise (Frew) Raup, who now reside in Pittsburgh. His wife, Mary Louise (Hankison) Raup, and his parents are the only survivors.
Funeral services were conducted at St. John's Lutheran Church; burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery; arrangements were handled by the Suter-Rouzer Funeral Home.
