HUNTINGTON- James Clifton McClain, 78, of Huntington died Aug. 6, 1997, in St. Mary's Hospital.

He was former owner and president of the Dr Pepper Bottling and Frito-Lay companies of Huntington, and was a field representative for the Dr Pepper Co. in Dallas, with districts in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Virginia and North Carolina. He was a graduate of Missouri State University and an Army veteran of World War II. He opened the Dr Pepper Bottling Co. of Huntington in 1946 and served as a member of the advisory board of the National Double Cola Co. in Chattanooga, Tenn. He served on the executive board of the Huntington Chamber of Commerce, was past president of the W.Va. Soft Drink Bottler's Association, was a member of the Huntington Lions Club and served several years on the Campfire board of directors.He was a member of the Million Dollar Sales Club for Ullom Co., and was an elder at First Presbyterian Church, Huntington.

Surviving:daughters, Mary Eathel McClain Frazier of Milledgeville, Tenn., Amy McClain Joyner of Nashville, Tenn.; brothers, Aubry and John, both of Nevada, Mo., and A.W. and Jack, both of Harrisonville, Mo., Charles Hardman of Spencer; four grandchildren.

Service will be 11 am Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, Huntington, with the Rev. Ernest T. Thompson and the Rev. William dePrater officiating. Burial will be in Rock Cave Cemetery, Rock Cave.Friends may call from 6 to 8 pm today at Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary, Huntington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 1015 Fifth Ave., Huntington, W.Va. 25701; Hospice of Huntington, P.O. Box 464, Huntington, W.Va. 25709; or to the American Cancer Society.
