Services for county jailer and former city police officer Edward L. "Speed" Wark, 60, of Valparaiso, who died Monday in Porter Memorial Hospital, will be at 10:30 Thursday at First Christian Church.
The Rev. M. W. Robert Craig will officiate; burial in Graceland Cemetery; visitation 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Bartholomew Funeral Home; memorials to Porter County Cancer Society.
He was born Jan. 8, 1927 in Valparaiso, a son of Charles and LaVanchie (Cool) Wark.
Mr. Wark was a Valparaiso Police Department patrol officer for 20 years, retiring March 15, 1972. At the time of his death he was a jailer at the Porter County Jail where he was employed since 1979. Mr. Wark was a member of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 76. He served for 18 months with the U. S. Army infantry.
On Dec. 1, 1963 in Valparaiso he married Jane Calhoun, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Charles of Valparaiso; a daughter, Cathy Murphy of Chesterton; five brothers, James of Valparaiso, John of California, Harry of Valparaiso, Charles of Illinois and Thomas of Australia; six sisters, Irene Coover Arizona, Ethel Moran of North Carolina, Betty Quinn of Kentucky, Alene Wark of Valparaiso, Ruther Heller of South Carolina and Mary Keller of California; and three grandchildren.
