3 Nancy Ann Whisenant slipped away from this world and joined her beloved Father in Heaven on December 23, 2016. On March 9, 1950, Nancy was born to Marion and Forrest Bass. Nancy grew up in Rolling Meadows, Illinois with her two brothers and two sisters. After she graduated in 1968 from William Fremd High School, Nancy moved to Austin, Texas where she lived with her grandparents and attended the University of Texas. She had many fond memories of her time with her grandparents and spoke of their experiences many times over the years. One of the most memorable trips involved the three of them going to Spain.
During her college years, she met and fell in love with Jim Whisenant and they married in 1973. They decided to forgo a honeymoon and to buy a starter home instead, making Austin their permanent home. They watched the city grow around them and over the years would share many memories about how things used to be. Nancy worked hard and earned her Bachelor's degree in Education, becoming the first in her family to achieve a college education. Later, Nancy and Jim welcomed a daughter, Amber into the world.
Nancy was a people lover all of her life. Although she was geographically distanced from the rest of her family, she loved them dearly and made her best efforts to stay in contact with them and demonstrate her love for them keeping them reminded that they were always in her thoughts. Nancy was always tenderhearted, showing compassion towards others. Despite her many health matters, she rarely complained and bore all her burdens with a continuous smile.
Devout her entire life, Nancy was a very active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved serving her fellow church members as well as serving in her community. She gave countless hours to others, providing innumerable acts of service and spent much time as a volunteer for community organizations. A lifelong Type 1 diabetic, Nancy felt an affinity for diabetics and particularly enjoyed volunteering for Auxanomen, a low-cost clinic for diabetic care.
Nancy learned to garden from her father and bake from her mother. She also loved reading, playing the piano, speaking Spanish and was a passionate lover of animals. Nancy had a steady stream of dogs over the course of her life. During her dog walks through the neighborhood, she'd make many friends, taking the time to talk to her neighbors.
