Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park. George died Tuesday, Oct. 28, at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 31, at the funeral home. George Howard Nelson was born May 31, 1919, the son of Fred and Clara Nelson in Cresbard, S.D. He was reared and educated in the Cresbard area. He married Leona “Onie” Dunker in Mansfield on Nov. 27, 1941. They farmed in the Mansfield and Chelsea area and moved to Aberdeen in September 1946. George was involved in trucking with the Dunker & Nelson Company in 1946-1947 when he became employed by EC Kettering. From 1948-1952, he was employed with Dakota Transfer while also being employed by Edwin Angerhofer Trucking and P.A. Bradbury. In 1952, he became a full-time livestock hauler for Edwin Angerhofer Trucking and continued driving until 1969. He began working for Wilbert Burial Vault (now Aberdeen Vault) in 1969 and worked full-time for them until his retirement in 1983. He continued working part-time for them after his retirement and became a resident of Bethesda Home of Aberdeen in April 2005. George was a member of the Dakota Musicians Association. He was a drummer with a band he helped form in the 70s, the “Country Gents” and was also a drummer for the Vic Carlson Band in 1983-1986. He always enjoyed any style of country and old time music and dancing was a favorite pastime especially with partner, “Onie.” He was an active member of the Aberdeen Moose Lodge and donated much of his spare time in his retirement years to the lodge, where he also enjoyed playing pool. Nels George Bierman was born March 10, 1914, at Mansfield to Fred L. and Louise (Limberg) Bierman. This is the area where he attended school and farmed with his parents.

He married Annabelle Dunker Nov. 1, 1942, in Mansfield. They made their home on the Bierman Homestead where they lived and farmed until 1988 when they moved to Aberdeen. His wife died July 29, 2002.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, where he had been involved with the choir since 1929 and served on the church board for several years. He was also a member of the Bierman Band, which played in this area for many years. This band was made up of his three brothers and one sister. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge and of the Gair School District board which he served on for many years. He enjoyed bowling and was on the Senior Citizen Bowling League until almost a year ago. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, traveling and dancing with his wife. He enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his friends and family.
