Rachel Conner Mayberry, 92, a retired teacher, died Saturday, May 3, 2003, at the St. Dominic/Jackson Memorial Hospital. Graveside services are 2:30 p.m. Monday in Lakewood Memorial Park. Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home of Jackson is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mayberry was a native of Attala County. She graduated from MSCW in 1933. She taught elementary school for 27 years. In 1960 she was the representative from the Jackson Public Schools to the International Convention of Special Children in Los Angeles, Calif. She retired from Jackson Public Schools in 1975 and became a member of the Jackson-Hinds Retired Teachers Association.

Mrs. Mayberry was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church where she was a former teacher of the Newell Bruner Sunday School class. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and was the devotional leader for several groups. She was a charter member of the Fezette club, the ladies auxiliary to the Masonic Shrine Drum Corps Unit, which was organized in 1951. She was president of the group in 1958.

Mrs. Mayberry is preceded in death by her husband, Otis A. Mayberry. She is survived by her daughters, Rachel Everett and Ann Harrison; son-in-law, Robert C. Everett; sister, Genelle McAllister; all of Jackson; grandchildren, Scott and Mackenzie Everett, of Brandon; Kevin and Rhonda Harrison, Mark and Michelle Harrison, of Huntsville, Ala.; and great-grandchildren, Blake, Todd, and Bailey Harrison.

Funeral services will follow at 2:00pm in the funeral home chapel with burial in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

Ruby was born in Newton County on November 13, 1914, to the late Pleas Clayton Blount and Nancy Amanda Breazeale Blount. A life-long resident of Jackson, Ruby was a homemaker and loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Carl Robinson and Kenneth Mayberry, as well as siblings, Henry Blount of Decatur, Lille Blount Wright of Birmingham, AL, Jasper Blount of Hickory, Hardy Blount of Philadelphia, Elzie Blount of Decatur, Lou Ella Blount Gordon Kennedy of Winona, Ida Mae Blount Foy of Jackson, Minnie Lee Blount Wall, Clarence Blount and Lamar Blount all of Decatur.

She is survived by her son, Leon Robinson and wife Dorothy of Baton Rouge, LA; her daughter, Sue Osborne and husband Gaines of Brandon; granddaughters, Michelle Robinson and Kathy Osborne Demesa; grandson, Steve Osborne; and great-grandsons, Matthew Martin, Evan Osborne and Hunter Osborne.
