Harold Rozell Bruce was a College Professor.5 U.S. Army-WWI.5 Dr. Harold R. Bruce, polical science author and professor emeritus of Dartmoutn and the Claremont Colleges, died Sunday at Pomona Valley Community Hospital after a short illness.

Dr. Bruce, 80, lived at 416 Blaisdell Dr., Claremont. He is the author of numerous college texts covering the American political scene.

He began his 40 year teaching career in 1912 as an instructor in public speaking at Pomona College. He remained at Pomona College until 1914.

He served as a lieutenant in the field artillery in the army during WWI. After this assignment he joined the government department at Dartmouth.

Dr. Bruce organized the Pomona College Pep Band when he resumed his career at Pomona College 12 years ago.

A native of Clinton, Wis., Dr. Bruce was born Oct. 13, 1890. He retured to Claremont from Hanover, N.H., in 1958. He received his Ph.D from the University of Wisconsin and honorary degrees from Dartmouth.

During his career, he was an interim minister at the congregational churches in St. Johnsbury and North Pomfret in Vermont, and the Barre Presbyterian Church in Vermont.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Katherine Bruce and a sister, Mrs. Raymond Baker of St. Persburg, Fla. A son, Donald Walter Bruce, was killed during World-War II.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at the Rand Funeral Home, Hanover, N.H. A memorial service will be held in Claremont in the near future.
