Rev. Fenton C. St. John, age 90, of Evansville, IN, formerly of Kent, OH died peacefully on Thursday October 15, 2009 at the John & Betty Charlier Hospice Center in Evansville. He was born March 9, 1919 in New Castle, PA a son of the late Frank and Mabel Seltzer St. John. Fenton served and protected his nation in the US Army, stationed in India. He was a Member of the East Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church, he was active in Church Camps and Administrated the building of the Epworth Lodge in Bethesda, OH. He was instrumental in the founding of the Tree City Carvers in Kent. He was a Minister at many churches, located in Guys Mills and Mt. Hope, PA, Port Ewen, Esopus and Rifton, NY, as well as Randolph, Middlefield, Brimfield, Youngstown and Kent, OH. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by 8 Siblings. He is survived by his wife Sara Tanner St. John of the home, whom he married Dec. 27, 1944; a Daughter Kathleen (Tim) Doudna of Caldwell; Two Sons Maynard (Christine) St. John of Evansville and Marlin (Jean) St. John of Clayton, NC; 11 Grandchildren Eric, Raquel, Tara, Erik, Joe (Jenna), Matthew, Lucy, Brandon, Shannon (Daniel), Nicholas and Bryce; 8 Great Grandchildren Jacob, Caleb, Luke, Hannah, Sara, Isaac, Mackenzie and Landon; Sister-In-Law Vera Mae Ramsey of New Castle. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends. Friends will be received from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Monday, October 19, 2009 at the United Methodist Church of Kent, 1435 East Main St., Kent, OH 44240. The funeral service will follow visitation at 11:00 AM in the Church and Rev. Virgil Hershberger Co-Officiating. Burial will follow at 3:00 PM at the Graceland Cemetery in New Castle, PA. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the John & Betty Charlier Hospice Center, 610 East Walnut Street, Evansville, IN 47734.
