1 RICHMOND Leroy H. Rix, age 81, a lifetime resident of Richmond, died Saturday, May 14, 2005 in his home after an extended illness.
Mr. Rix was born Oct. 8, 1923 in Richmond to the late Edna (Schubert) Rix.
He married Barbara Zyrd in Richmond on Sept. 15, 1945. Barbara died on Nov. 30, 2003.
Leroy graduated from Richmond High School with the Class of 1941 and entered the United States Army that fall. After his service duty, he opened Rix's Barber Shop in Richmond and worked there for 54 years, retiring in 1999.
Leroy was very community and politically inclined, serving these various organizations: Past Chief and member of the Richmond Fire Department for 60 years; Past President of the Blue Water Fireman's Association; founder of the Richmond Good Old Days Festival; Memorial Day Remembrance Chairman; Macomb County Supervisor; Richmond Village president and multiple time mayor; Richmond City Coucil; Richmond Chamber of Commerce; Richmond Masoic Lodge #187; Eastern Michigan Barbers Association; and active member of the First United Methodist Church. He was the recipient of the prestigious Paul Harris Fellowship Rotary award and enjoyed golfing and bowling.
Leroy and his wife, Barbara, spent endless hours watching and cheering their grandchildren throughout their athletic careers. He will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his sons and daughtersin-law, Thomas and Glenda of Columbus Twp. and Timothy and Lorelei of Richmond; brothers, Archie, Jerry and Richard; halfbrother, Elroy; sisters, Betty Green, Margaret Blakely and Donna Orrell; stepsiblings, John Waters, LeAnn Waters and MaryLou Lee; grandchildren, Michael (Leigh) Rix, Rachael (Jeff) Churchill, Mark (Christy) Rix, Jennifer (Dan) Hill and Matthew (Alicia Wiegand) Rix; and greatgrandsons, Chase and Cole Churchill.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Pete and Edna Waters; brother, Robert Rix; stepbrothers, Richard and Francis Waters.
A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the First United Methodist Church in Richmond. The Rev. Trevor Herm, pastor of the First United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Richmond Cemetery under the auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans.
Visiting will be 3 to 9 p.m. today in Rewalt Funeral Home in Richmond and 10:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday in the church. A Masonic service will be 7 p.m. today.
