Mary K. Rhodes, 84, of Stroudsburg died Sunday in Lehigh Valley Hospital Center, Salisbury Township. She was the wife of the late Fred H. Rhodes, who died May 10, 2000.
Born Dec. 22, 1919, in East Stroudsburg, she ws the daughter of the late Clarence E. and Myrtle (Hillpot) Walter and had lived in the area all of her life, until the last three months when she lived with her daughter Judy in Bath.
A 1937 graduate of Stroudsburg High School, Mary was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Stroudsburg; a former member of the Junior Women's Club of Stroudsburg, the Senior Women's Club of Stroudsburg and the Daughters of the American Revolution, Jacob Stroud Chapter, East Stroudsburg.
She is survived by two daughters, Judith Scheks of Bath and Barbara Addison of Otisville, Michigan; four grandchildren, Timothy Zoppi, Rebecca Zoppi, Braden Hirsch and Julie Hrycyszyn; three great-grandchildren, Colby and Jacob Hrycyszyn and Samantha Hirsch; a sister, Claire Kitchen of Stroudsburg, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a a sister, Helen V. Ahnert.
Cremation will be in the H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg, with private burial in Stroudsburg Cemetery,
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, in William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main St., Stroudsburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, R.R. 2, Box 2138, Stroudsburg, PA, 18360.

Fred H. Rhodes, 81, of Stroudsburg, died Wednesday, May 10, in Northeastern Pennsylvania Veterans Center, Scranton. He was the husband of Mary K. (Walter) Rhodes. They were married 58 years in January.

He was the post master of the Stroudsburg Post Office from 1949-1977.

Born in Gouldsboro, Wayne County, he was a son of the late Fred and Dorothy (O'Boyle) Rhodes.

He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Stroudsburg.

He was an Army veteran of World War II serving in the 36th Army, 3rd Armored Division, as a signal corps staff sergeant from 1942-1943 and was discharged as a captain in 1947. He received a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars. He was a member of the Thomas P. Lambert Post 2540 Veterans of Foreign Wars, East Stroudsburg, and was a former chairman of the Selective Service Local Board 105 of Pennsylvania.
