She was a member of Independent Baptist Church of Sebring, where she helped in Children's Ministries.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marion Brooks; sister, Mary Blanchard of Apopka, FL and brother, John Burke of Lawrenceville, NJ. She is survived by a sister, Catherine (Melvin) Roberts, Avon Park, Florida; brother, William Burke, Ft. Meade, Florida; step-daughter, Linda Mollahan, Houston, Texas; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews and very close friend, Betty Carlisle of Sebring.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at Independent Baptist Church of Sebring with Pastor Larry Ruse officiating. Interment will be in Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations may be made to either Independent Baptist Church, 5074 C.R. 17 South, Sebring, FL 33870; Good Shepherd Hospice, 1110 Hammock Rd., Sebring, FL 33870 or The American Cancer Society. Local arrangements were handled by: Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home,Sebring, Florida.

Alicia O. Sassman LAWRENCEVILLE - Alicia O. Sassman, 86, of Lawrenceville passed away at her home on Thursday. Born in Santiago, Chile, she immigrated to the United States in 1962 and had been an area resident and U.S. citizen for over 45 years. Alicia was past president of the Circulo Hispano-Americano de Princeton, a longtime member of her neighborhood gourmet club, and a member of the Ladies of Princeton Book Club. Daughter of the late Martin and Gertrudis Alicia Evans Oehlmann, and wife of the late James Edward Sassman, she is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Liliana and Norman Spadaccini; her brother and sister-in-law, Eduardo and Maria Teresa Oehlmann, and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Church of St. Ann, 1253 Lawrenceville Road, Lawrenceville. There will be no calling hours and cremation was private. In lieu of flowers, the family strongly suggests that contributions be made in Alicia's name to the Central and South Jersey Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure , 2 Princess Road, Suite D, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648 or the VNA of Mercer County, 171 Jersey St., Trenton 08611.
