Charles Francis Powers, 74, formerly of Nokesville, Va., passed away Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010 in Fredericksburg, Va. He was born Sept. 14, 1935 in Towanda, Pa., oldest son of the late Edward H. and Helen L. (Wickwire) Powers. He enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, John Deere tractors, genealogy, fishing, walking and spending time with his grandchildren and family. After graduating from Rome High School and Mansfield College in Pennsylvania, he became a teacher and later a software analyst and engineer for IBM, Burroughs Corporation/Unisys/Contel having retired in 1991.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Donald "Jack," in 1985 and one son, William "Bill" in 2001.
Survivors include: his loving wife of 53 years, Betty Moore Powers of Nokesville, Va.; two sons, Robert of Nokesville and Alan and wife Heather of Stephens City, Va.; one daughter, Sharon White and husband Bo of Fredericksburg, Va.; two grandsons, Scott Powers and Aaron White; and three granddaughters, Ashlee Powers, Amelia Powers and Kaytria Powers. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 6, 2010 at Stonewall Memory Gardens, Manassas. Condolences may be sent to www.piercefh.com.
