JAMES H. VAN BUSKIRK SR., 82 LOVES PARK - James H. Van Buskirk Sr., 82, of Loves Park, formerly of Durand, passed away Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, after a lengthy illness. Born Sept. 20, 1926, in Rockford, the son of Carlos and Sadie (Byrd) Van Buskirk. Married Marilyn Wilke on Nov. 26, 1947, in Lake Bluff by Dr. Carlton Rogers. Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Army, stationed in the South Pacific Theatre, rebuilding after World War II. He was just presented his diploma from Durand High School this past June 2009 from the Durand School Board. Member of Riverside Community Church in Machesney Park, American Legion Gold Star Post No. 676 and Durand Fire Department. Member of Teamster Local No. 325 and worked with several trucking companies over the years, retiring in 1988; then worked for Greene True Value. In 1991, he and Marilyn hit the road in their RV to travel across the country seeing relatives and friends. He was an avid reader and great storyteller to everyone he met and was a friend to all. He will be missed by all. Survivors include the love of his life, Marilyn Van Buskirk; son, James H. (Joan) Van Buskirk Jr. of Fayetteville, N.C., their son James Jason (Nichole) Van Buskirk and their daughter, Maya; son, William C. (Billie Sue) Van Buskirk of Richmond, Va., and their daughter, Carrie McAnelly and her children, Nathan, Devon and Austin and their son, William Chad (Angie) Van Buskirk and their children, Ashley and William Cade; son, Michael A. (Sally) Van Buskirk of Orlando, Fla., and daughter, Nicole (James) Girardo and children, James Taylor and Sidney and daughter, Corrina Smith and her daughter, Kennedy; daughter, Cheryl (David) Maggio of Rockford and their children, Amanda, Mark (Allix Zies) and Matthew Maggio; sister, Elizabeth Singleton of Roseland, La.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents and brothers, Richard and retired Major General, Lawrence Van Buskirk. A special thank-you to Dr. Craig Rogers for treating Jim like an older brother all of these years, he thought the world of you. Funeral ceremonies at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, in Riverside Community Church, 6816 N. Second St., Machesney Park, with Pastor Bobby Sheets presiding. Cremation rites will be accorded. Burial at a later date in Davis (Ill.) Cemetery. Visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, in McCorkle Funeral Home, 101 Main St., Durand, and from 10 a.m. Saturday to time of service in the church.
