He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and a son of the late George Pat and Elva Crisp Cable. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Sheppard Cable, who died in 1977 and three brothers, Evan, Neil and Tommy Cable. He retired from Champion International in 1993 with 41 years of service. Mr. Cable was a member of North Canton Baptist Church and a United States Army veteran serving during the Korean War.?
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Viola Mae Duran Cable of the Brian Center of Waynesville; two daughters and their husbands, Dawn and Terry Kile of Canton and Lisa and Jim Prowell of Weaverville; two stepsons and their wives, Kenneth and Karen Hyatt of Springdale, Ark., and Samuel and Melissa Hyatt of Gainesville, Ga.; two sisters, Patsy Cable Swanger of Pisgah Forest and Clara Cable Metcalf of Canton; five brothers, Charles Cable of Pisgah Forest, Roy and Fred Cable of Bryson City and Wiley and Ben Cable of Canton; three grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren, one great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.?
The funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Canton chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Clark officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral home prior to the services.?
