Mary E. (Butterfly Lady) Macari left us on Wednesday, April 20, 2011. She was born on Woburn Street and passed away at her home of 65 years. She wanted to, and did live a full life cycle within a 5 mile radius.

She was born to Vernon Welch and Bethel Young on November 14, 1924. She first married Harold Frye and had a son, Jack Leroy who passed on in 1950. She met and married Joseph (Peanuts) Macari on May 31, 1947, who preceded her in death on May 11, 1998.

Survivors include their children, Lynda and husband Bob Roybal of Quail Valley, CA; Leslie Mundt and husband Eric Graves of Aloha, OR; Joe Macari, Liann Dow, and Jay Macari, of Bellingham; Lugene Warner and Darrell Watson of Sedro Woolley, WA; Jan Macari and Denise Fennel of Ferndale, WA; with numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Vernon Welch, in 2006; sister, Juanita Swoboda, in 2009 and her and Joseph's beloved dog, Harey.

Mary enjoyed crocheting blankets and butterflies, and numerous other novelty items. Her butterflies and flag pins are known to have gone around the world.

She enjoyed traveling and fishing with her husband. Mary was a member of the Mt. Baker Organ Society, National Genealogy Society, and past president and lifetime member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Thanks to the caregivers that cared for Mom in the past year. Special thanks to ladies at hospice and the Threshold Choir who made Mom's last days more enjoyable. Hugs to all.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 28th at 1:00 p.m. at Moles Bayview Chapel in Bellingham.
