Everett LeRoy Taylor
May 25, 1938 - April 6, 2009
Everett LeRoy Taylor has gone home to be with his Lord and Savior. He died at home surrounded by his family, on Monday, April 6, after his battle with cancer. He was 70 years old.
Everett was born to Everett Leslie and Anna Bernice Taylor on May 25, 1938, in Aberdeen, Wash. The family moved to Sweet Home when Everett was in the sixth grade. He graduated from Sweet Home High School. Upon graduation, Everett joined the United States Navy.
After leaving the Navy, he worked in Washington on a commercial tugboat. He later moved back to Sweet Home and went to work for the Lebanon Telephone Company. He married Rosanne Marie Dlouhy on June 15, 1963. After their honeymoon, the couple settled in Lebanon.
In 1966, the couple moved to Las Vegas, where Everett worked for the telephone company. While in Las Vegas, Everett enjoyed flying, and earned his private pilot’s license. In 1976, the family returned to Oregon, where Everett worked for Pioneer Telephone Co-op. The family settled in Philomath, where they continue to reside.
Everett loved being a father and a grandfather. He enjoyed attending the academic and sporting events his children and grandchildren were involved with.
Everett was devoted to service to his community as well as to the Lord. He volunteered for 23 years on the Philomath Warriors’ football “chain gang.” In 1999, he traveled as part of a church missions team to El Salvador, and again in 2000 to Costa Rica to help with construction projects.
His hobbies included taking his family camping and fishing. He was a talented woodworker and often built beautiful pieces for his family. After his three grandchildren were born his focus shifted to building gifts for them and taking his grandsons fishing when they came to visit.
His wife of 45 years, Rosanne; son David of Philomath; daughters Sharon Taylor of Salem and Amy Strand of Hawaii; and three grandchildren, also of Hawaii, survive him. Everett was preceded in death by his parents.
With his wife, Everett loved attending Suburban Christian Church, where his memorial service will be held. The service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, April 10, at 2760 S.W. 53rd St. in Corvallis.
Memorial donations can be made to the Everett Taylor Memorial fund at any Wells Fargo Bank.
The family wishes to thank his Hospice nurses Jenny and Reenie as well as his therapist, Russ, for their wonderful care and support.
Services are under the direction of Twin Oaks Funeral Home.
